Review #39 – Whistlepig 10 Year Single Barrel

Review #39 – Whistlepig 10 Year Single Barrel

Review #: 39
Description: Whistlepig 10 Year Single Barrel
Spirit: Rye

Background: Whistlepig has come up as an NDP sourcing rye from both MGP in Indiana, and Candian Rye from Alberta Distillers. The brand was built up by the late Dave Pickerell and while has begun distilling their own rye, their sourced barrels are still the main supply in their products. This is their standard 10 year expression.

This was tasted at the Whistlepig Tasting Room in Waterbury, VT along side 3 other WP brands. The notes are slightly abbreviated as the room is small and I didn’t want to take away from other visitors waiting their turn.

Distillery – Alberta Distillers

Bottler – Whistlepig

Brand – Whistlepig

Selection – N/A

ABV – 50%

Age – 10 Years Old

Nose – Spice, citrus, lemon and orange
Taste – Sweet citrus complimented by rye spice
Finish – Spicy with caramel and cocoa

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: I honestly thought this was pretty tasty, even for being a generic bottling and at only 100 proof. Lots of sweet citrus balanced with the savory spices of the rye. The price tag is just too high, especially when Single Barrel Selections at cask strength exist at the same price.
