Review #88 – Ardbeg Uigeadail

Review #88 – Ardbeg Uigeadail

Review #: 88
Description: Ardbeg Uigeadail
Spirit: Scotch

Background: Ardbeg Uigeadail, affectionately known in the community as “Oogie,” is a blend of ex-bourbon barrels and ex-sherry butt whiskey. There is no age statement and while not cask strength, it boast a punchy 54.2% abv. It is the cheapest of the 3 bottles I was tasting, so let’s see if the value is still there.

This review was done along with Octomore 8.2 and Laphroaig 10 CS as a short “Islay” high proof series. This was the 3rd tasting so keep that in mind.

Distillery – Ardbeg

Bottler – Ardbeg

Brand – Ardbeg

Selection – N/A

ABV – 54.2%

Age – NAS

Nose – Cherry chocolate, cinnamon toast crunch, stale bread, un-ripe mango, seaspray
Taste – Cherry syrup, vanilla, heavy cream
Finish – Smoked meat, burnt cinnamon, brine, a little bit of seaweed

Score: 8
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: Ok, I will admit that at this point, I was feeling pretty happy, so the score may have been inflated a little bit, but it is apparent that the sherry has a good amount of influence and brings some fruity sweetness in with the smoke.  Yes, I really enjoy peat but I was surprised that I gave all three an “8” as they are distinctly different from one another.  This being the cheapest means it is a solid value, but it’s so hard to go wrong with these Islays
