Review #109 – Octomore 10.4

Review #109 – Octomore 10.4

Review #: 109
Description: Octomore 10.4
Spirit: Scotch

Background: Back to Bruichladdich for their super peated Octomore line. The x.4s are aged in virgin oak, and this 10.4 release is aged just 3 years in virgin French Limousine Oak. Coming in at 63.5% and without chillfiltration or added color, let’s see if it makes the big price point.

Distillery – Bruichladdich

Bottler – Bruichladdich

Brand – Octomore

Selection – N/A

ABV – 63.5%

Age – 3 Years

Nose – Campfire smoke, moist dirt, burnt cinnamon sticks, very meaty, some vinegar, burnt toast, some chlorine cleaner, the ethanol is pretty aggressive
Taste – Maple syrup, caramel, liquid smoke, sweet bbq sauce, stewed cherries
Finish – Long and smokey, smoked maple bacon, black pepper, the heat blends in well with the peat smoke.

Score: 8
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: Woo, this is more than a drink, it’s a full experience.  If you are a huge peat head, then this will be right up your alley.  Despite being young, the virgin oak gives enough influence that lends itself well with the strong peat.  This is like a meal in and of itself.  I wouldn’t just go for this anytime, but if I had a bottle there would definitely be times where this is exactly what I was craving.
