Review #156 – Bushmills 10 Year Single Malt

Review #156 – Bushmills 10 Year Single Malt

Review #: 156
Description: Bushmills 10 Year Single Malt
Spirit: Irish Whiskey

Background: Part of Bushmills’ core lineup, the Northern Irish distillery ages this for 10 years in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-oloroso sherry barrels.  Watered down to 40% but fairly affordable and widely available, let’s see how it stands up.

Distillery – Bushmills

Bottler – Bushmills

Brand – 10 Year Single Malt

Selection – N/A

ABV – 40%

Age – 10 Years

Nose – Honey, graham crackers, a bit of that standard kind of Irish “hay” note I get in a lot of cheaper options, musty malt and bran flakes
Taste – Vanilla, watery honey, little bit of sweet raspberries and strawberries, dried flowers
Finish – Malt comes in with toasted bread and balances with the sweetness.  Tiny bit of barrel spice and heat but ultimately a fairly short and uninspiring finish that ends up being mostly watery

Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? For $30, it’s not a terrible value and better than standard Jameson or Bushmills White Label

Thoughts: I was pleasantly surprised at the fruity flavors that came through and the balance of the casks used in the blend, but ultimately, it fell the route of so many standard Irish offerings: thin and straightforward.  It’s not a bad dram to use to warm up your palate or when you want a light pour.
