Review #197 – Old Tub Bottled-In-Bond

Review #197 – Old Tub Bottled-In-Bond

Review #: 197
Description: Old Tub Bottled-In-Bond
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: A fairly recent “Limited Release” (quotes since it is a rather large, national release) from Beam, this used to only be available at the distillery. Claimed as Booker Noe’s favorite bourbon, it is now available nationally without chillfiltration and at a very attractive price point just over $20.

Distillery – Jim Beam

Bottler – Jim Beam

Brand – Old Tub

Selection – N/A

ABV – 50%

Age – NAS

Nose – Lots of peanuts and peanut brittle, sweet fruits: strawberry, grape, toasted bread.  This is as close to a pbj as you can get in a whiskey.
Taste – Pretty thick mouthfeel, creamy peanut butter, vanilla cream, caramel, there’s a very slight astringency to it.
Finish – Toasted nuts, brown sugar, raspberry, light oak, and just more and more nuts.

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? Yes, and I bought a backup bottle

Thoughts: Oh man, Beam really nailed it with this one, at least for my tastes.  If you don’t like sweet fruit and peanut butter, maybe you won’t like it as much.  If you like Beam profile, you’re going to want a bottle of this.  It’s a killer under $25.
