Review #296 – Baker’s Small Batch Bourbon

Review #296 – Baker’s Small Batch Bourbon

Review #: 296
Description: Baker’s Small Batch Bourbon
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: Under the Beam umbrella, Baker’s is a bourbon that holds an odd section of the market.  107 proof and 7 years old, at $60 dollars it is less proof than KC and younger, but also older than Bookers.  Recently, they switched from this being a small batch product to single barrel.  I tried two samples together blind, before revealing which of the products it was.

Distillery – Jim Beam

Bottler – Jim Beam

Brand – Baker’s

Selection – N/A

ABV – 53.5%

Age – 7 Years

Nose – Definitely some roasted peanuts, but well matched with some earthy fruit.  LIke unripe strawberries.  Pleasant oak.  Almost like a tortilla chip note in there too.
Taste – Much like the nose but gets a bit brighter and sweet with the nuttiness and fruit.  Vanilla cream comes in too
Finish – Roasted nuts, creamy chocolate and oak.  Little hint of orange comes in.

Score: 6

Guess: Single barrel

Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: There’s nothing incredible or mind blowing here, but it is incredibly solid and interesting enough to hold your attention through the pour.  Just good bourbon without frills.
