Review #297 – Baker’s Single Barrel Bourbon

Review #297 – Baker’s Single Barrel Bourbon

Review #: 297
Description: Baker’s Single Barrel Bourbon
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: Under the Beam umbrella, Baker’s is a bourbon that holds an odd section of the market.  107 proof and 7 years old, at $60 dollars it is less proof than KC and younger, but also older than Bookers.  Recently, they switched from this being a small batch product to single barrel.  I tried two samples together blind, before revealing which of the products it was.

Distillery – Jim Beam

Bottler – Jim Beam

Brand – Baker’s

Selection – N/A

ABV – 53.5%

Age – 7 Years

Nose – A bit more nuts and earthiness compared to the first pour.  A bit of oak but more roasted corn coming through
Taste – A little more basic.  Just kind of sweet vanilla, hint of nuts and corn.
Finish – Roasted nuts, touch of oak, little bit of rye spice and oak.  Kind of quick though

Score: 4

Guess: Small Batch

Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: Nothing bad here, but just kind of uninspiring.  The nose was interesting but the taste and finish were just ok.  Pretty straightforward bourbons without any of the aspects that can take the drink to the next level.
