Review #29 – MAUI Pineapple Rum

Review #29 – MAUI Pineapple Rum

Review #: 29
Description: MAUI Pineapple Rum
Spirit: Rum

Background: MAUI Pineapple Rum is marketed as being made with genuine Maui Gold Pineapple, fermented/distilled/bottled on Maui and family owned and operated. I really don’t have much more information. I picked this up when I was in Maui for work and wanted something local. Not pictured, but the bottle even had a multicolored lei on so it had to be good, right?

Distillery – Haleakala Distillers

Bottler – Haleakala Distillers

Brand – MAUI

Selection – N/A

ABV – 40%

Age – NAS

Nose – Obvious pineapple, sour candies, light grassy notes
Taste – Extremely light and thin, watery, slight tropical fruit sweetness but not distinctly pineapple
Finish – Surprisingly long but not overly complex, dried apricots and pineapple, some grainy notes

Score: 2
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: Oof. For being a “pineapple rum,” it really didn’t hit the notes I would want for something specialized, not even for cocktails. I wanted to give this the benefit of the doubt as it has been open a long time and was towards the end of the bottle, but considering Haleakala Distillers are no longer in business, I think that speaks to the generally feeling towards their products.
