Review #31 – Raleigh Rum Company Silver Rum

Review #31 – Raleigh Rum Company Silver Rum

Review #: 31
Description: Raleigh Rum Company Silver Rum
Spirit: Rum

Background: Operating out of a small warehouse, Raleigh Rum Company’s silver rum is the backbone of most of their products. Running 2, 53-gallon column stills, the silver rum is distilled from molasses, aged for an undisclosed period of time, before being distilled again. I was able to visit their little distillery when I first moved to the area and enjoyed the short tour and being able to pick the brains of the owners. But since, I have been more critical of spirits so we will see how it stands up to some more scrutiny.

Would I buy a bottle? Possibly, to support a local product

Thoughts: This was actually pretty enjoyable. There is a good amount of tropical fruit balanced with the molasses, and then even some funk coming in on the back end. Really, it’s the proof that is holding this back. Would love a thicker mouthfeel on this and just some more punchiness. I visited a couple years ago so maybe I need to swing by and push them to think about a higher proof offering.
