Description: Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: An old bourbon label that previously carried a 10 year age statement, AAA 10 Star is under the “Mashbill #2” portfolio of Buffalo Trace. Typically found on the bottom shelf, it’s ties to other brands seem to have caused some issues with availability and allocation. So is it just as good as Blanton’s for a quarter of the price?
Distillery – Buffalo Trace
Bottler – Buffalo Trace
Brand – Ancient Age
Selection – N/A
ABV – 45%
Age – 3 Years
Nose – Corn, toasted bread, marshmallow, raisin, ethanol at the end
Taste – Very thin mouthfeel, watery, cornbread, plain cracker
Finish – A little bit of baking spice, heat is there but very short
Score: 3
Would I buy a bottle? No
Thoughts: I wavered on whether to give this a 3 or a 4. It’s not that it was bad, but it was just so thin and empty. It was like corn steeped in water for a while. Objectively, not bad, just nothing standing out with it.
