Review #36 – Old 55 Corn Whiskey

Review #36 – Old 55 Corn Whiskey

Review #: 36
Description: Old 55 Corn Whiskey
Spirit: New Make

Background: I grabbed this bottle when travelling for work in Indiana (surprise) and well before knowing about MPG. I saw this in the store as being distilled in Indiana and that was about it. To be “Corn Whiskey” it needs to be at least 80% corn, but the bottle only states it is 100% grain. This is batch 1501, bottle #220, and Bottled By: CF in Newtown, Indiana.

Distillery – Kinsmen Distillery LLC

Bottler – Kinsmen Distillery LLC

Brand – Old 55

Score: 3
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: This was interesting to taste. Especially since there was a creamy aspect yet also very watery. Almost like fresh coconut milk. Just pretty one dimensional and the bitterness in the palate was disappointing. They have since released some aged whiskies (as I got this bottle circa 2016) and have heard decent things so I would definitely be willing to try some of their newer bottlings.
