Description: Jean-Luc Pasquet Lot 92 Aficionados x FineDrams
Spirit: Cognac
Background: This cognac comes from the prestigious Jean-Luc Pasquet. Distilled in 1992 with grapes grown in the Petite Champagne region. This cask was selected by the Aficionados discord server and sold by FineDrams.com (and currently still available) and bottled at cask strength with no additives. My first cognac, but let’s see how it might compare to the armagnac the group also picked.
Distillery – Jean-Luc Pasquet
Bottler – Jean-Luc Pasquet
Brand – Jean-Luc Pasquet
Selection – Aficionados
ABV – 61.4%
Age – 27 Years
Nose – Sweet, grape jelly, blueberry pie, cherry wood
Taste – Blackberry jam, caramel, vanilla frosting, very thick mouthfeel
Finish – Alcohol punches in but settles into tingling black pepper, leather, tobacco, and barrel spice
Score: 8
Would I buy a bottle? Yes
Thoughts: There’s such a great balance of oak and fruity sweetness here. The alcohol punches hard but rather than overpower it helps wrap everything together. I did save some of my Hail Yak and drinking back to back, both of these are fantastic in their own way. The Lot 92 is more delicate and sweet, where the hail yak is more heavy and has a richer quality. This seems like a fantastic deal in terms of flavor and quality at this price point and I had to grab a bottle after sampling.
