Review #73 – Ultimatum Guatemala Darsa 2008

Review #73 – Ultimatum Guatemala Darsa 2008

Review #: 73
Description: Ultimatum Guatemala Darsa 2008
Spirit: Rum

Background: Bottled by the Ultimate Whisky Company (the irony), the Darsa distillery is relatively unknown compared to bigger brands from the country. While most rum from Guatemala is solera, this is a single barrel offering. It was distilled in 2008 and aged 8 years in a bourbon barrel before being bottled without chill-filtering or added color. Let’s see how it tastes.

Distillery – Darsa

Bottler – The Ultimate Whisky Company

Brand – Ultimatum

Selection – N/A

ABV – 46%

Age – 8 Years

Nose – Honeydew melon, light and floral with some grassy notes
Taste – Toasted vanilla, caramel, medium mouthfeel with slight sweetness
Finish – Lots of barrel spice, cinnamon lingers, little bit of molasses and oak tannins

Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? I’d be happy with a bottle, but probably wouldn’t seek it out to buy.

Thoughts: This rum just really wasn’t very interesting or inspiring.  It’s not super expensive, but there’s competitively priced bottles that bring more flavor to the table.  Nothing here really stepped up the way you’d like a rum to. It’s just very light and inoffensive.
