Review #133 – Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel: Fine Wine & Good Spirits

Review #: 133
Description: Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel: Fine Wine & Good Spirits
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: Another single barrel selection of Wild Turkey’s Russell’s Reserve. This was done by the state of Pennsylvania through their state stores: Fine Wine and Good Spirits. This was aged for 9 years and 8 months in warehouse F. Let’s see how it tastes.

Distillery – Wild Turkey

Bottler – Wild Turkey

Brand – Russell’s Reserve

Selection – Fine Wine and Good Spirits

ABV – 55%

Age – 9 Years 8 Months

Nose – Very fruity, bubble gum, spearmint, pleasant oak, cinnamon stick
Taste – Thick over the tongue, caramel, cinnamon, light stone fruit but not distinctive
Finish – Long, lots of rye spice, cinnamon and oak

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? Probably

Thoughts: This was a solid bottle of Russell’s Reserve, but still kind of in the realm of just a good bourbon.  Having had a better single barrel before, it makes me think that this might be the floor for the brand.  It doesn’t dissuade me from trying more and I really want to try more of these picks
