Review #: 135
Description: Don Valente Garcia Madrecuixe March 2019
Spirit: Mezcal
Background: Don Valente García Madrecuixe, Santa Maria La Pila, Miahuatlán, Oaxaca. Agave variety: Madrecuixe (subvariety of Agave karwinskii). 120 liters, March 2019. 47% alcohol. Most likely mashed with a tahona (millstone), fermented in Mexican cypress wood vessels with well water, distilled in copper. Valente also produces for Alipus and the Mezcalero line of mezcals and has been bottled more recently by Palenqueros. His grandson Semei was probably heavily involved in the production.

Some were special bottles unavailable commercially. The above information is what was provided after the tasting. Currently there are running online tastings so if you want to learn more about mezcal or you are in NYC when the world returns to normal, check them out!

Would I buy a bottle? Probably
Thoughts: This was very nice and interesting with the range of notes picked up and how it developed from nose to finish. One of the best textured spirits I’ve had, if a bit simple on the flavor on the palate. Very enjoyable.
