Review #152 – Doorly’s XO

Review #152 – Doorly’s XO

Review #: 152
Description: Doorly’s XO
Spirit: Rum

Background: Doorly’s is one of the more budget aligned offerings from Foursquare distillery in Barbados. In the U.S., it is only sold at Total Wine. Without any dosage and I’ve seen it as cheap as $17, it is a highly attractive option for a pretty well aged house rum. Differing from the 8 year, the XO trades the age statement for some rum that was aged in Oloroso sherry casks.

Distillery – Foursquare

Bottler – Foursquare

Brand – Doorly’s

Selection – N/A

ABV – 40%

Age – NAS

Nose – Maple syrup, raisin, clove
Taste – Maple syrup, honey, burnt caramel
Finish – More burnt/bitter notes, earthy, some light spice.

Score: 4
Would I buy a bottle? No, since it’s the same price as the 8 Year I’d get that

Thoughts: There definitely was influence from the sherry, as I got some more earthy fruit notes, but it also came with some bitterness that I found off putting.  Still, $17 makes it worth a flier to try and worse case you use it for cocktails.
