Description: Teeling Single Cask 16 Year White Wine Finish: Fine Wine & Good Spirits
Spirit: Irish Whiskey
Background: Another Teeling Single Cask, though this one apparently was selected by the PA run liquor stores: Fine Wine and Good Spirits. I am all about getting some cask strength, private selections of Irish whiskey. This was finished in white wine casks for a total age of 16 years and bottled at 56% ABV.
Distillery – Cooley
Bottler – Teeling
Brand – Teeling
Selection – Fine Wine and Good Spirits
ABV – 56%
Age – 16 Years
Nose – Typical Irish malt/pot still, some milk chocolate, dry side of white wine, some lemon custard. The more airtime the more fruit that comes through and turns a bit tropical.
Taste – Sweet cream, milk chocolate, cooked peaches, cherry juice, freshly baked sourdough bread
Finish – Lovely toasted malt, sourdough, chocolate, oak dries out a little (might also be some of the wine influence??), cinnamon comes in but quickly turns a bit spicier and lingers.
Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Yes
Thoughts: What can I say? Teeling is just putting out solid single casks and I really hope more enthusiasts start seeing them as they can punch up there with Scotch. I didn’t get tons of the white wine influence, but I’m also not super into wine so I won’t be too critical there. Again, this was more on the sweet side which some may not like, but I really enjoyed it.
