Review #183 – Sipsmith London Dry Gin

Review #183 – Sipsmith London Dry Gin

Review #: 183
Description: Sipsmith London Dry Gin
Spirit: Gin

Background: Sipsmith is a pretty widely available brand of gin that tries to blend history with innovation. Their dry gin is made using copper stills and a decent list of botanicals focusing heavily on the juniper and citrus side. This was a travel retail bottle I bought, which I thought only made the size distinctive (as the bottle is 1L) but I have noticed in my research that other bottlings appear to be 41.6% ABV and this one is 44.1%.

Distillery – Sipsmith

Bottler – Sipsmith

Brand – Sipsmith

Selection – N/A

ABV – 44.1%

Age – Unaged

Nose – Juniper, lemon zest, rosemary, sour cherries, a classic gin smell but bright and clean
Taste – Creamy, more lemon, some bitter herbs and tea flavor.  Still very clean
Finish – Lots of dry juniper, lemon flavor turns a bit more sour, peppercorn and bitter herbs, tongue is left feeling kind of tacky

Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? Yes, if I needed a dry gin

Thoughts: I think this was well executed and tasted good for what it is, but I’m definitely more of a botanical gin person than a dry gin.  I think this is a good value as well, so my score reflects my tastes, but if I needed a dry gin (and this has tasted quite good in cocktails to me) I would get it.  But on it’s own, it’s not my personal favorite.
