Review #186 – 100 Mill St. Lumberjack ‘N’ Jill Gin

Review #: 186
Description: 100 Mill St. Lumberjack ‘N’ Jill Gin
Spirit: Gin

Background: This is a special edition release from 100 Mill St.  Made like their standard gin, it is distilled from maple sap and uses 14 botanicals, but the ABV is cranked up from 42% to 55%.  Sold only in 375mL as well, it is a small release and no word on whether they will release it again.

**Full Disclaimer: 100 Mill St. sent me this bottle for free with no strings attached.  My notes and thoughts are my own.

Distillery – 100 Mill St.

Bottler – 100 Mill St.

Brand – 100 Mill St.

Selection – N/A

ABV – 55%

Age – Unaged

Nose – Heavy hitting with cinnamon, clove, orange peel, fresh tree sap, sugary sweetness.  Almost a touch of tropical fruit with some mango in there.  It’s a great play of savory spices, sweet, and fruit and citrus while retaining balance.
Taste – Super rich and creamy.  Orange creamsicle, cinnamon syrup, maple sugar, anise, clove, balanced juniper
Finish – Huge blast of spices and juniper kick in, complemented with lime zest, peppermint, maple sugar.  The finish is long and keeps dancing from sweet to citrus to savory to light bitterness. Long, complex, and extremely enjoyable.

Score: 9
Would I buy a bottle? Absolutely

Thoughts: This right here is one of the reasons I started reviewing spirits and expanding beyond just whiskey.  No, not because the distillery provided the bottle, but even starting to review gins, there have been some that I’ve enjoyed sipping neat and I’ve been drinking more and more gin cocktails, but this bottle right here has such a level of complexity and enjoyment that I would expect from a well aged whiskey.  The nose is intoxicating and brings a new note every time you bring the glass to your nose but remains balanced.  The mouthfeel is so rich and the finish constantly transformers and evolves on in your mouth.  I’ve already sought out a way to buy myself another bottle because I really enjoy it that much.  This is easily the best gin I’ve had and will be hard to beat, but that won’t stop me from trying more and more.  To think, when I started reviewing, I thought gin was gross.
