Review #227 – Lassiter Amber Rum

Review #227 – Lassiter Amber Rum

Review #: 227
Description: Lassiter Amber Rum
Spirit: Rum

Background: This is a molasses based craft rum out of North Carolina.  Lassiter Distilling was committed to making rum without additives which I greatly appreciate.  However, the company has since sold and is no more.  Let’s see if the rum opens up any information on why that happened. This is Batch #4

Distillery – Lassiter Distilling

Bottler – Lassiter Distilling

Brand – Lassiter Distilling

Selection – N/A

ABV – 40%

Age – NAS

Nose – Dark molasses, oatmeal raisin cookies, tobacco leaf, old banana peel, nutmeg, raw wood
Taste – Molasses, gingersnap cookie, pretty thin and watery
Finish – Very short, a little bit of ginger syrup and burnt caramel

Score: 3
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: Another I will try to give some leeway on as the bottle had been opened and low for a while.  Honestly, the gingersnap cookie note that was persistent was really nice and tasty, but it was just completely neutered by being at 40%.  I know it’s easy to criticize a craft place that is trying to make money, but I can’t help but think it being at 45 or 50% could have made a huge difference.  I guess we will never know though.
