Spirit: Armagnac

Background: This is a single cask selection by Kentucky BBT and bottled for Lincoln Road Package Store from the Le Freche region of France and bottled by L’Encantada.  No chillfiltration nor additives.  It was distilled in 1989 and aged for 29 years before bottling at 49.8% abv.

Distillery – Le Freche

Bottler – L’Encantada

Brand – L’Encantada

Selection – BB&T/Lincoln Road

ABV – 49.8%

Age – 29 Years

Nose – Menthol tobacco, apricot jam, green apple, leather, plums, you can smell the tannins.  Some air time helps settle it down
Taste – Syrupy, caramel apple, leather, cinnamon bark, a tiny bit of water brings out a ton of green apple
Finish – Hard to pull out much when the oak and tannins are this dry.  You know when cartoons eat something really sour and their mouth sucks into itself?  That’s how this feels.  Little bit of tobacco and leather come through, light menthol

Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: The menthol on the nose was a little bit much for me, and while the palate was nice and something a bit different from what i am used to, the finish just sucked everything out of my mouth.  It was unbelievably dry and makes it really hard to want to go back for another sip knowing what would come.
