Review #239 – Knob Creek Single Barrel: Orange County ABC Batch No. 1

Review #239 – Knob Creek Single Barrel: Orange County ABC Batch No. 1

Review #: 239
Description: Knob Creek Single Barrel: Orange County ABC Batch No. 1
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: Here we have a Knob Creek Single Barrel selection coming from the North Carolina Orange County ABC.  Distilled on February 11th, 2004, aged in warehouse W-X, floor F-04, and rick R-033 until bottling on March 11th, 2019.  Control states are usually a bit hamstrung in their ability to select single barrels, so let’s see how this one fares.

Distillery – Jim Beam

Bottler – Jim Beam

Brand – Knob Creek

Selection – Orange County, NC ABC

ABV – 60%

Age – 15 Years

Nose – Heavy oak, dark cocoa, stewed plums, light maple syrup, roasted almonds, rich even on the nose.
Taste – Maple syrup, toasted marshmallow, orange marmalade, almost a bit of like bruleed banana, fudgey chocolate, buttery and oily mouthfeel
Finish – Hits hard with toasted oak and roasted peanuts, pipe tobacco, cinnamon bark

Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: Wow, this is really good.  So dark and rich on each level of it.  It feel like it wants to be tannic and a little over oaked, but it never gets there.  The problem is that I don’t know whether this speaks more to the Knob Creek single barrels or the OC ABC.
