Review #: 243
Description: Knob Creek Single Barrel: Midland Beverage
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: Wrapping up this KC short series, this whiskey was selected by Midland Beverage. It was distilled by Jim Beam on February 11th, 2004, aged in warehouse W-X, floor F-04, rick R-033 before selection on March 20th, 2019. That makes this nearly identical stats to my review of the NC Orange County barrel. Let’s see if it is any different
Distillery – Jim Beam
Bottler – Jim Beam
Brand – Knob Creek
Selection – Midland Beverage
ABV – 60%
Age – 15 Years 1 Month
Nose – Little bit more spicy and green, granny smith apple, musty oak and leather, sweet vanilla, a little bit of pine in there, ethanol makes itself known (but feels like 60%)
Taste – Caramel, vanilla, maraschino cherry, light oak and spice, banana
Finish – Apple, some rye spice, ginger and pepper, cola, rich leather and sweet oak
Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? Yes
Thoughts: I poured some of the KC Orange County bottle I had next to it, and while they had some similarities, the Orange County barrel was a bit more rich in mouthfeel and fruitiness. I would liken this more to the Bankhead Beverage on I reviewed just before this. A bit more straightforward as to what I would expect from Beam, but still a fantastic bourbon. Interesting that a bottle with nearly identical distillation and aging stats can be different, but that is what makes bourbon so great.
