Description: Port Charlotte JUR:01 2009
Spirit: Scotch
Background: Part of the Bruichladdich Exclusive “Distillery Valinch” series, this whisky was distilled on April 8th, 2009, aged 10 years in a Jurancon Cask, and bottled on February 22nd, 2020 at cask strength. No color added and non-chillfiltered. I didn’t even know what Jurancon wine was but it appears to be white wine, either dry or sweet, from Southwestern France. Unique and interesting, let’s see how it tastes.
Distillery – Bruichladdich
Bottler – Bruichladdich
Brand – Port Charlotte
Selection – N/A
ABV – 59.7%

Nose – White grapes, dry apple cider, some spearmint, dry toasted oak, white chocolate, peach rings. Lots of bright fruit and oak but dry keeps coming to mind. Sourdough-y malt, tart lemon. Peat smoke is faint in the background.
Taste – Rich and caramely, vanilla, buttery pastry dough, raisins, sweet oak, roasted almonds
Finish – Ashy peat comes in with black pepper, sea salt, burnt wood, very dark chocolate, cigar smoke
Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? No
Thoughts: Nothing bad with this, but it just wasn’t all that interesting to me. Some nice notes here and there but felt pretty straightforward. The nose was nice but the rest of the experience didn’t do enough to justify the 500mL bottle and price tag. Glad to be able to try it though.
