Review #315 – Doorly’s 12 Year

Review #: 315
Description: Doorly’s 12 Year
Spirit: Rum

Background: This is another in the Doorly’s line, exclusively sold by Total Wine in the U.S.  Distilled by Foursquare in Barbados, this one is aged 12 years and a blend of 90% ex-bourbon and 10% Madeira.  It retails under $30 and often goes on sale for close to $20, so let’s give it a taste.

Distillery – Foursquare

Bottler – Foursquare

Brand – Doorly’s

Selection – N/A

ABV – 40%

Age – 12 Years

Nose – Cherry, apple, brown sugar, roasted coffee beans, molasses, chocolate covered bananas.  The notes are distinct but aren’t very heavy.
Taste – Banana, caramel, apple, vanilla, butterscotch
Finish – Pleasant with molasses, tobacco, oak, butterscotch

Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: To me, this is a perfect bottle to buy for someone or bring to a party.  It’s complex enough and killer for the price point.  It’s an excellent example of high quality, no dosage rum at a lower proof that anyone can enjoy, especially people just starting out their rum journey.  I think the 12 year adds a layer of oak complexity rather than the sweetness of the 8 year, though both are great for the price.
