Description: Chateau du Tariquet VSOP
Spirit: Armagnac
Background: Just like the VS from Chateau du Tariquet, this one is made from a blend of eau-de-vies from 60% Ugni-blanc and 40% Baco grapes grown on site. The difference comes in the age where this spends at least 7 years in French Oak. So let’s see if it makes much of a difference.
Distillery – Chateau du Tariquet
Bottler – Chateau du Tariquet
Brand – Chateau du Tariquet
Selection – N/A
ABV – 40%
Age – NAS
Nose – Definitely a bit of a richer oak on the nose with some chocolate, toasted marshmallow, fruit sweetness is then muted a little bit but gets some stewed plums in there a little bit with fig.
Taste – Richness continues here with some grape jam, milk chocolate, vanilla, decent texture on it despite the proof
Finish – Oak again comes in but more with baking spices here, nutmeg and clove, dark chocolate, dried cherries
Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? Yes
Thoughts: The extra age is really apparent and definitely helped in the sipping neat experience. The oak is more integrated and helps with more complexity and feel. This separates itself more from the VS as a sipper and yet the price isn’t that much more.
