Review #323 – Weller Full Proof: Single Barrel Select

Review #: 323
Description: Weller Full Proof: Single Barrel Select
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: Weller Full Proof is one of the newer releases from Buffalo Trace’s wheated mashbill line.  Bottled at the same proof it enters the barrel (114) they are offered both as a generic batch and part of the single barrel program.  This sample was provided by a friend, but all I know is that it was a single barrel but was not told who selected it.

Distillery – Buffalo Trace

Bottler – Buffalo Trace

Brand – Weller

Selection – Unknown

ABV – 57%

Age – NAS

Nose – Nice toasty oak, smoked apple, molasses, rich cherry, shortbread
Taste – My goodness is this rich: caramel, maple syrup, brown sugar, shortbread, sugar cookie, cherry cordial
Finish – Nice toasted oak, brown sugar, sweet cinnamon, cigar tobacco, caramel

Score: 8
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: This may be one of the richest and thickest mouthfeel I’ve had on a spirit.  It really feels like you are drinking maple syrup.  It’s heavy on the sweetness and a bit narrowed on that, but the depth is there to back it up.  This is a dangerously dessert-y pour.
