Review #353 – Privateer Distiller’s Drawer #67 “Yankee Flyer”

Review #353 – Privateer Distiller’s Drawer #67 “Yankee Flyer”

Review #: 353
Description: Privateer Distiller’s Drawer #67 “Yankee Flyer”
Spirit: Rum

Background: This is a single barrel selection of Privateer Rum by MAWLS.  Aged for 2 years in New American oak, Privateer has established themselves as putting American Rum on the map and have been during well even with virgin oak.  So let’s see how this one stacks up.

Distillery – Privateer

Bottler – Privateer

Brand – Privateer

Selection – MAWLS

ABV – 51.6%

Age – 2 Years

Nose – Nice vanilla, caramel, brown sugar as you should expect, but then there is some nice toasted coconut, tobacco leaf, cocoa, wet soil
Taste – Light vanilla, bitter chocolate, roasted almonds, tinge of copper
Finish – Gets a bit more aggressive with burnt sugar, oak, cacao, and a little bit too much of the metallic bite at the back of the throat.

Score: 4
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: This really isn’t bad but it is a bit straightforward with it’s approach.  I’ve used this bottle a lot to show how well it can stack up against plenty of bottles that you can find on the shelf while remaining undosed, but the bitterness just distracts a bit too much for my taste
