Review #354 – Privateer Distiller’s Drawer #70 “Queen’s Share Bottled-In-Bond”

Review #354 – Privateer Distiller’s Drawer #70 “Queen’s Share Bottled-In-Bond”

Review #: 354
Description: Privateer Distiller’s Drawer #70 “Queen’s Share Bottled-In-Bond”
Spirit: Rum

Background: While people might mostly think of Bottled-In-Bond referring to bourbon, it actually can be applied to nearly any spirit (I think even vodka, but needs to be aged in a paraffin lined container).  Privateer has taken that on with this Distiller’s Drawer release with their rum being aged in New American Oak for 4 years and bottled at 50% ABV.  Let’s see how it is and whether it stands up to not only the BiB label, but also the “Queen’s Share.”

Distillery – Privateer

Bottler – Privateer

Brand – Privateer

Selection – N/A

ABV – 50%

Age – 4 Years

Nose – Rich caramel, cocoa, orange cream, vanilla custard, toasted oak, pie crust.
Taste – Milk chocolate, caramel covered pineapple, toasted marshmallow.  Reminds me of a milkyway candy bar.  Thick, rich, and buttery
Finish – More oak and dark chocolate come in, toasted marshmallow, gingersnap cookie.

Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: Really lovely rum.  Kind of reminds me XXX/3 but with more cocoa than fruit.  I noticed similarities from the Queen’s Share single barrel bottle I previously had, especially the marshmallow note, but it’s clear here that this is more nuanced and complex.
