Description: New Holland Knickerbocker Blueberry Gin
Spirit: Gin
Background: This is a gin coming from New Holland Distillery in Michigan. Their Knickerbocker gin uses a slew of botanicals and this one throws a heap of Michigan grown blueberries in with them. Let’s see how it tastes.
Distillery – New Holland
Bottler – New Holland
Brand – Knickerbocker
Selection – N/A
ABV – 40%
Age – Unaged
Nose – Very floral, bright juniper, vanilla, pine needles, cinnamon, nutmeg, blueberry is present, but more like the smell of picking blueberries off a bush with the earthy and floral compliments rather than just sweet blueberry taste
Taste – Vanilla frosting, light blueberry pie, cinnamon syrup, cardamom
Finish – Blueberry gets a touch sweeter, juniper, pine, cinnamon, slight tickle of heat
Score: 4
Would I buy a bottle? Yes
Thoughts: While this doesn’t really have crazy depth or complexity, it hits the target it is going for and shows good balance rather than being too sweet or too intense with the blueberry. While my score is lower, for cocktails, this is amazing. A subtle hit of blueberry in gin drinks helps take them to another level. Army Navy is one of my favorite cocktails, and with this being used, the blueberry, lemon, and almond make a mix of my favorite flavors.
