Description: Blanton’s (2009)
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: Blanton’s has been around for quite a while now so while 2009 is not all that old in the brand’s history, it is back well before it would fly off shelves and probably was considerably cheaper. I have like the standard Blanton’s I have reviewed from the current era, so let’s see if a former decade makes a difference. This was dumped on November 16th, 2009.
Distillery – Buffalo Trace
Bottler – Buffalo Trace
Brand – Blanton’s
Selection – N/A
ABV – 46.5%
Age – NAS
Nose – Milky caramel, vanilla cake, chocolate chip cookies, musty oak keeps it balanced
Taste – Restrained sweetness, buttered cornbread, light vanilla extract, some more of that fresh chocolate chip cookie
Finish – A bit oaky and some bitterness, but more in a dark chocolate/coffee bean way than battery acid (like the green label)
Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? No
Thoughts: An overall pleasant experience without anything standing out. It lacks that bright fruitiness I’ve had before from the modern bottles that I really enjoy, but it is still fine bourbon. It’s not worth any premium though.
