Review #455 – Treaty Oak Single Barrel Rum: Whiskey Charlies

Review #455 – Treaty Oak Single Barrel Rum: Whiskey Charlies

Review #: 455
Description: Treaty Oak Single Barrel Rum: Whiskey Charlies
Spirit: Rum

Background: This is a single barrel of rum distilled by Treaty Oak in Texas and selected by the group “Whiskey Charlies.”  It was aged for 7 years in the hot Texan climate before being bottled at cask strength.  Texan whiskey can be a bit iffy, can the rum be any different?

Distillery – Treaty Oak

Bottler – Treaty Oak

Brand – Treaty Oak

Selection – Whiskey Charlies

ABV – 51%

Age – 7 Years

Nose – Dark cherry, cocoa powder, gingerbread cookies, charcoal, Vienna Finger cookies, pancakes with syrup
Taste – Very sweet with molasses, candied ginger, caramel, maraschino cherry juice
Finish – Maple syrup, burnt caramel, charred oak, torched cherry, not all that hot or long though

Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? Probably not

Thoughts: Even as someone with a big sweet tooth, this was so sweet.  Like maple syrup levels of sweet.  You might as well pour this on some coffee ice cream.  I don’t think sugar is added, but it’s just a lot.  I will give them points for keeping the oak in check through 7 years in Texas.  It’s definitely there, but it isn’t dominant or overly tannic.
