Review #460 – Longrow Red Pinot Noir

Review #460 – Longrow Red Pinot Noir

Review #: 460
Description: Longrow Red Pinot Noir
Spirit: Scotch

Background: This is a bottling from Springbank and their peated line of whiskies.  It spent 8 years in bourbon casks and then an additional 3 years in refill Pinot Noir wine casks.

Distillery – Springbank

Bottler – Springbank

Brand – Longrow

Selection – N/A

ABV – 53.1%

Age – 11 Years

Nose – Bright red apple, smoked vanilla, milk chocolate, peach, tiny bit of sulfur
Taste – Bright, fruity, and sweet: red apple, caramel, vanilla, grape juice
Finish – Hits hard with sea salt, white pepper, and a bit more sulfur than I find enjoyable.  Peat smoke jumps in more too

Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: An interesting pour, but it jumps a bit to extremes.  From bright and sweet, to salty and more bitter, it’s just not as harmonious as I was hoping.
