Review #461 – Longrow Red Cabernet Sauvignon

Review #461 – Longrow Red Cabernet Sauvignon

Review #: 461
Description: Longrow Red Cabernet Sauvignon
Spirit: Scotch

Background: Following the Pinot Noir, this peated Springbank spent 10 years in ex-bourbon and sherry casks before spending the last 3 years in Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon red wine casks.  Let’s see how the extra time and different wine changes the distillate.

Distillery – Springbank

Bottler – Springbank

Brand – Longrow

Selection – N/A

ABV – 51.6%

Age – 13 Years

Nose – A bit more savory on the nose with melted butter, campfire smoke, dry grape, cucumber, lemon water.  Just a touch of citrus sweetness
Taste – Sweet cream, candied lemon, vanilla pudding, muted fruit
Finish – Gets a touch salty, little funky, peat smoke sneaks in and stays in the mouth

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: This doesn’t punch like the Pinot, but still has nice flavor and depth to it while transitioning a bit better.  Not as much sulfur but lacking some of that nice fruit pop.
