Description: Little Book Chapter 1: “The Easy”
Spirit: American Whiskey
Background: Released in 2017, Little Book has been Beam’s brand to let Freddie Noe to do some experimenting and blending to make his own name for himself within the famed lineage of the Noe family at Jim Beam. “The Easy” is the first chapter and is comprised of a blend of 4 year old bourbon, 6 year 100% malt whiskey, 6 year high rye whiskey, and 13 year corn whiskey. It has a presentation fairly similar to Booker’s and likewise, is uncut and unfiltered.
Distillery – Jim Beam
Bottler – Jim Beam
Brand – Little Book
Selection – N/A
ABV – 64.1%
Age – 4 Years
Nose – Brown sugar, lots of cherry and slightly medicinal, peanut brittle, kind of a grainy-young wood cinnamon spice in there. Wondering if the malt has something to do with it, little bit of bar soap
Taste – More medicinal cherry, caramel, brown butter, oak. Pretty sweet and chewy
Finish – Fairly hot, malty, oaky, sweet corn, cherry gets more acidic and oak starts drying out. End up just being a bit of an ethanol mess that is left
Score: 4
Would I buy a bottle? No
Thoughts: Seems like an interesting blend at first and the nose starts off nice, but more air reveals some less desirable notes and the biggest drawback is the heat that is left on the tongue. It’s pretty distracting and just feels like each different whiskey isn’t meshing as you would want them to.
