Description: Lost Lantern Westward Port Cask Single Malt: r/Bourbon
Spirit: American Single Malt
Background: Lost Lantern is an American Independent Bottler trying to separate themselves from the NDP that flood the market. Here they have sourced a bottle of American Single Malt from Westward Distillery in Portland, Oregon. It spent 4 years in New Oak from Kelvin Cooperage before a final year in Adega Port Casks. No additives, filtration, nor dilution.
Distillery – Westward
Bottler – Lost Lantern
Brand – Lost Lantern
Selection – r/Bourbon
ABV – 64%
Age – 5 Years
Nose – Very fruity but on the rich side, cooked apples, raspberry jam, melted chocolate, sweet vermouth, graham cracker
Taste – Viscous and sweet, raspberry syrup, maple donut, bran flakes cereal but with really good almond milk, something a bit savory tucked in there (almost meaty)
Finish – Toasted sourdough, black coffee, toffee, dark chocolate, there’s almost some pine in there? A bit of a twist but not disjointed. Leaves it feeling a touch savory
Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? I think so
Thoughts: Different from the Westland, this is another surprise but a welcome one. Super fruity and jammy, it has the malt influence to be able to compare to other foreign producers while being unique and high quality. It’s a really in-depth pour that reveals more with each sip.
