Description: Chateau du Breuil 8 Year Sauternes Finish
Spirit: Calvados
Background: This is a calvados produced by Chateau du Breuil. It spent a total of 8 years aging with the final stint done in a sweet Sauternes wine cask. Unsure on the length of the finish.
Distillery – Chateau du Breuil
Bottler – Chateau du Breuil
Brand – Chateau du Breuil
Selection – N/A
ABV – 43.4%
Age – 8 Years
Nose – Vanilla cake, sweet cider, little bit of a sterile/soap smell to it, caramel apple, fresh wood. Definitely a very “bright” smell to it”
Taste – Light sweetness, almond, hint of caramel, kind of funky and woody
Finish – Bit of oak spice, apple pops and leaves it feeling really refreshing
Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? Available for around $50, it would be a good candidate to have as a house calvados bottle to introduce others.
Thoughts: I was expecting a bit sweeter and more distinctively fruity, but it was a little more subdued. The nose and finish were brighter and refreshing, but the taste left a little to be desired. Still solid and plenty affordable
