Review #499 – Old Particular Ledaig 2006: K&L Exclusive

Review #: 499
Description: Old Particular Ledaig 2006: K&L Exclusive
Spirit: Scotch

Background: This is a single cask of peated Tobermory.  Distilled in February of 2006, it spent 15 years in a refill sherry butt before bottling in October of 2021 by Douglas Laing for K&L wines.

Distillery – Tobermory

Bottler – Douglas Laing

Brand – Old Particular

Selection – K&L Wines

ABV – 51.8%

Age – 15 Years

Nose – Soft lemon candy, apple, honey, buttered pastry, smoked plums, little bit of dark chocolate.  Peat is strong but not overpowering
Taste – Light honey, almond croissant, sweet lemon, brownie batter, the back end is where smoke starts to come in that lightens it and make it a bit more bitter
Finish – Tart with lemon and smoke, sea salt, black pepper

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? At $100, I think so.  That’s solid value

Thoughts: Ledaig is a sleeper on the peat side since they don’t carry the Islay designation, but man is this one a bruiser.  Even for a lover like myself, this is even punchier than most Octomores.  It really takes away from the sweetness that is there but the bitterness isn’t harsh.  A nice single offering at a very reasonable price.
