Review #501 – Benriach Heart of Speyside

Review #: 501
Description: Benriach Heart of Speyside
Spirit: Scotch

Background: This is an entry level bottling from the Speyside distillery of Benriach.  Unpeated, no age, and under $30 for a bottle, let’s see how low the bar is.

Distillery – Benriach

Bottler – Benriach

Brand – Benriach

Selection – N/A

ABV – 40%

Age – NAS

Nose – Very malty, bran flakes, green apple, honey, toast and jam
Taste – Light and sweet, honey, melon, vanilla cream, peach
Finish – Malt, light oak, heavy vanilla, sweet but fleeting, little prickle of black pepper lingers with toasted bread

Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: A nice, malty bottle that is extremely affordable but not sure if it is still an offering.  Too bad because this would be a great bottle to just have on the bar.
