Review #513 – Nashville Barrel Company Single Barrel Rye: r/Bourbon #189

Review #: 513
Description: Nashville Barrel Company Single Barrel Rye: r/Bourbon #189
Spirit: Rye

Background: 30 for 30: Day 7.  This comes from Nashville Barrel Company in, surprise, Nashville.  They are doing tons of single barrels and blends but I believe it’s all MGP whiskey.  This was aged for 8 years before selection by r/Bourbon and is barrel number 189.

Distillery – MGP

Bottler – Nashville Barrel Company

Brand – Nashville Barrel Company

Selection – r/Bourbon

ABV – 55.74%

Age – 8 Years

Nose – Lots of dark fruit; blackberry, cooked apple, sweet vermouth, Dr. Pepper, tobacco, dark chocolate, toasted rye, nice oak
Taste – Fruit comes through a whole bunch.  Black berries, red grapes, maple syrup, chocolate raspberry,
Finish – Tons of rye spice, sweet tobacco, more blackberry, toasted oak

Score: 8
Would I buy a bottle? Yes.  But even when this came out it was $115 and prices for NBC have continued to climb

Thoughts: Sometime reading other people’s notes you can roll your eyes and think “sure it tastes like that.” The write up had this as a blackberry manhattan.  I’ll be damned, this is so fruity and rich that it’s there.  Maybe the blackberry is being influenced, but it’s definitely that dark and sweet fruit note and the oak and rye work perfectly with it.  Really tasty.
