Description: Backbone Bourbon: r/Bourbon “Bourbon is Art”
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: 30 for 30 Day 10: Backbone is an operation running out of Indianapolis. Not shy or hiding that they are sourcing their bourbon from MGP, they’ve got a decent stock of older barrels and pretty good pricing considering the market. This one was selected by r/Bourbon as part of their “Bourbon is Art” series.
Distillery – MGP
Bottler – Backbone
Brand – Backbone
Selection – r/Bourbon
ABV – 61.4%
Age – 7 Years
Nose – Decent amount of oak with char smell coming through, torched cherry, hot caramel, kettle corn. Sweet, fruity, and oaky; a wonderful combination
Taste – Big sweet cherry, toffee, nougat, chocolate, raspberry syrup, bright and sweet with a nice texture to it.
Finish – Oak really comes in, a touch dry and warm but still has some dried fruit sweetness to balance
Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Yes
Thoughts: Really great balance of sweetness and oak without too much corn/grain coming through. It’s a bit on the dessert side until you get to the finish so I could see it not being for everyone, but I find it very nice.
