Review #206 – Don Fulano Anejo

Review #206 – Don Fulano Anejo

Review #: 206
Description: Don Fulano Anejo
Spirit: Tequila

Background: Don Fulano uses some slightly different methods of making tequila than some bigger brands.  They use a mix of both copper column and copper pot stills to blend into most of their tequilas.  The anejo is also aged in older wine barrels for a minimum of 2.5 years before being blended together.  I would not say I’m a fan of tequila after some less than positive experiences, but I figured I needed to give some high quality ones a chance.  All Don Fulano products contain no additives.

DISCLAIMER: Don Fulano provided a free bottle for our group to taste alongside one of their brand ambassadors over zoom.

Distillery – Don Fulano

Bottler – Don Fulano

Brand – Don Fulano

Selection – N/A

ABV – 40%

Age – 2 Years

Nose – Vanilla, agave, some fruity wine, chocolate cherries, slight menthol
Taste – Vanilla, sour cherries, some sharp oak, it both has a sharp sweetness but also bitterness at the same time.  A little weird but it works.
Finish – More oak bitterness comes in and slightly stronger vegetal agave, melon.  The fruit taste ends and becomes slightly drying and light mint on the tongue.

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: I was really impressed with this.  It had some great complexity and structure and balance despite only being 40%.  I could definitely see myself sipping on this.
