Description: Barrell Seagrass
Spirit: Rye
Background: Onto a release from BCS under the Barrell label, Seagrass has gained some notoriety with it’s long list of interesting finishes. Rye whiskey from Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee and Canada, it is split and finished in Martinique Rum, Madeira, and Apricot Brandy barrels. So it sounds interesting but also sound like it could be clashing with all those different finishes going on. This looks to be part of the standard portfolio now, so let’s see if it’s worthy to be in your bar.

Finish – Burst of spice, honey, sea salt, tobacco, brown butter, milky caramel, long linger of embers and rye spice on the tongue without being hot.

Would I buy a bottle? Yes
Thoughts: BCS really pulled off something magical with this. It’s crazy how harmonious those three finishes come out with the distinction that rye whiskey can bring. I was mostly worried about the agricole as that can definitely cut through flavors, but there’s a subtle salty/grassy note in the background but doesn’t over power. The fruity sweetness is so rich but not fake or over done. This pour is like a great, fruity dessert that you’d get at a fancy restaurant. I hope they keep this as a standard in their lineup because it’s well worth the money and something fun that’s easy to reach for.
