Description: Springbank Kobe Korosue PX Cask
Spirit: Scotch
Background: I’m not 100% on all the details of this release, so take my notes with a slight grain of salt. I believe this is a Japan exclusive. Aged for 19 years, I think the full maturation was done in PX Sherry casks and released in 2020.
Distillery – Springbank
Bottler – Springbank
Brand – Springbank
Selection – N/A
ABV – 53.6%
Age – 19 Years
Nose – Coffee grounds, milk chocolate, coco puff cereal, sweaty gym, raspberry sauce. Definitely a malty funk going on there. Sounds weird to say moldy or sweaty but that’s what comes to mind (though not negatively)
Taste – Thick, syrupy, jammy fruit, maple syrup, cinnamon chip pancakes, stewed plums, raspberry cheesecake, roasted walnuts
Finish – The funk fires back up with roasted coffee beans, freshly baked sourdough, peanut brittle, toasted oak and stewed dark fruits settle
Score: 8
Would I buy a bottle? It’s damn good, but around $1000 for a bottle is too rich for my blood
Thoughts: This to me is the complete Springbank package. Rich, jammy, oaky, proof well controlled, and that Campbeltown funk present all the way through. It carries a high price tag that’s hard for me to endorse, but if you can afford it, you won’t be upset
