Description: Raising Glasses Yowie 16 Year Beenleigh
Spirit: Rum
Background:
The last of this little Raising Glasses series and it is a bruiser. 16 year old Australian rum from Beenleigh distillery. I’ve previously had a 6 year, so I’m very interested in how another decade affects the spirit. It was barreled as a blend of column and potstill distillate and was aged for 11 years in Australia before another 5 in the UK. Yowie is the Aussie equivalent of Bigfoot and fittingly then 5% of profits from the bottle go to the North Queensland Animal Rescue.
Full disclosure, this sample was provided to me by a friend with connections to Raising Glasses (not employed by them though). The samples were provided to get my honest feedback. My thoughts are my own.

Would I buy a bottle? $60 for a half bottle I think is still some pretty great value so yes.
Thoughts: Definitely got some parallels to the TCRL release but the oak really ramps up the complexity. It’s certainly high proof, but fairly manageable. I quite enjoyed this and think this would be a great bottle to share with some other rum enthusiasts.
