Description: Old Fitzgerald Fall 2022
Spirit: Bourbon
Background:
Every year, Heaven Hill releases a Spring and Fall version of Old Fitzgerald. Bottled in a fancy decanter and being Bottled-In-Bond, the wheated bourbon generally carries a solid age statement but also a decent price. This comes from the Fall of 2022 which carries a 19 year age statement.
This was tasted blind and notes were made prior to reveal, so keep that in mind while reading.
Distillery – Heaven Hill
Bottler – Heaven Hill
Brand –Old Fitzgerald
Selection – N/A
ABV – 50%
Age – 19 Years
Nose – Cooked apple, dark chocolate, honeydew melon, milkyway bar, candied cherry, little bit of rosemary on the back end.
Taste – Sweet. Lots of dark fruit and chocolate, red wine, honey, nice texture.
Finish – Warm, oak, touch of spice. Still chocolate and some torched fruit. Not super hot or dry
Guess: Torn between a bourbon and a brandy. The fruit isn’t so forward that maybe it’s old, but there’s a decent amount of oak. The base fruit isn’t quite there so I have to say bourbon. 10-12 years, 50ish%? Maybe even something dusty?
Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Retailing around $240 I’d wouldn’t need a full bottle.
Thoughts: A really enjoyable pour. Not punishing, excellent texture and captivating flavors at each point.
