Description: Teeling Small Batch
Spirit: Irish Whiskey
Background: Teeling Small Batch, while another Irish blend with minimal statistics and information, is at least known to be non-chillfiltered and bottled at a respectful 46%. It was finished in rum casks. This sample was provided to my by my friend /u/TheAgaveFairy blind and the answer revealed after sending him my notes.
Distillery – Cooley
Bottler – Teeling
Brand – Teeling
Selection – N/A
ABV – 46%
Age – NAS
Nose – Lemon, some tropical fruit? Definitely lots of citrus, both sweet and sour
Taste – Quite thin, some caramel, vanilla, more citrus fruits though leaning towards the sour side
Finish – Pretty faint, burnt toast, lemon peel, tangy yogurt, little heat
Guess: 43%, bourbon cask, 8-10 years?
Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? Yes
Thoughts: Ah, I was thrown for a loop with the Irish! Looking back though, I got a good amount of the rum influence. It was actually quite tasty and retained that delicate aspect that I like in Irish, but that ABV is really holding it back. That said, I would strongly recommend this above the standard Jameson/Bushmills/etc. for someone looking for an entry level Irish whiskey. I’d love to try this at cask strength
