Review #: 97
Description: Distiller’s Art Speyside 1993
Spirit: Scotch

Background: Distiller’s Art is a line of bottlings from Hunter Laing. This is a single cask from the Speyside Distillery and aged 21 years in a sherry cask. Distilled in October of 1993, it was bottled in 2015 without chill filtering or color, but diluted down to 48%. Let’s see how it tastes.

Distillery – Speyside Distillery

Bottler – Hunter Laing

Brand – Distiller’s Art

Selection – N/A

ABV – 48%

Age – 21 Years

Nose – Sour candies (like sour patch kids), sugary malt, stone fruits, dry hay
Taste – Creamy vanilla, sugary cereal, medium mouthfeel
Finish – Sweet malts stays as pepper and clove linger, tiny bit of sea salt comes in towards the end

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? Probably, but 1993 is also my birth year which heavily skews my view (especially because I haven’t found that many of them)

Thoughts: This was an enjoyable pour.  I think for me 48% is a healthy strength for me.  While some are still good underneath, most fall a bit thin.  This had just enough flavor and complexity to be enjoyable, but nothing mindblowing.  This would be a good bottle to share with some friends for a special occasion since it is old, tasty but also approachable for anyone.
