Review #225 – Copper & Kings Butchertown Brandy

Review #: 225
Description: Copper & Kings Butchertown Brandy
Spirit: Brandy

Background: Here is a standard offering of Copper and Kings brandy.  Butchertown is a blend of their brandy with 75% aged in Kentucky Bourbon Barrels and 25% aged in new american oak. Non-chillfiltered and no additives, this comes in at 62% abv so it has pretty good stats.  Let’s see if the spirit is there to back it up.

Distillery – Copper & Kings

Bottler – Copper & Kings

Brand – Copper & Kings

Selection – N/A

ABV – 62%

Age – NAS

Nose – Almost like a Four Roses bourbon, fruity but oaky, dark chocolate covered raspberries, toasted oak, cherry
Taste – Very rich and syrupy, sweet cherries and raspberries, a little bit of roasted nuts, peaches and cream
Finish – Bitterness and heat come in but it’s manageable, dark chocolate, sour cherry juice, pepper, nicely toasted oak

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: This is really nice and probably a great transition for people who are into bourbon that want to try come American brandy.  It really is almost bourbon on the nose, and the fruit isn’t too dominant.  It is a touch hot though which holds it’s rating back.
