Review #276 – Copper & Kings Peerless Rye Finished Brandy

Review #276 – Copper & Kings Peerless Rye Finished Brandy

Review #: 276
Description: Copper & Kings Peerless Rye Finished Brandy
Spirit: Brandy

Background: This is a grape brandy from Copper and Kings that was aged for 4 years and 2 months in an ex-bourbon cask before it was finished for 1 year and 6 months in a Peerless Rye cask.  Bottled at a cask strength of 54%, this was tasted at the distillery so notes are a bit brief.

Distillery – Copper & Kings

Bottler – Copper & Kings

Brand – Copper & Kings

Selection – N/A

ABV – 54%

Age – 5 Years

Nose – Punchy with grape jam, rye bread, vanilla, there’s a nice woodiness there to support everything
Taste – Definitely still spicy with rye, little bit of stone fruit sweetness, vanilla
Finish – Lots of spice, nutmeg, allspice, rye, tobacco.  Feel like the brandy aspects get lost

Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: It just felt like the brandy just got swept away by the bourbon and rye casks.  Not bad, but if I wanted whiskey, I would just drink whiskey.  If I wanted brandy, it would be hard to turn to this, as interesting as the stats may be.
